Natural Acne Skin Care
Although you may be tempted to head straight for the medicine shelf when acne breaks out, pharmaceuticals can have a detrimental effect both on your acne and your body. Some can be positively dangerous (read the label under ‘Possible Side Effects’) and some are simply a waste of money having no effect at all.
Of course, if you are seeing a doctor or dermatologist, you will probably want to follow their suggested acne cure regime. But do so carefully and if you start to experience any side effects, even with carefully prescribed medicine, get in touch with your doctor at once.
However, many health professionals are now looking at natural cures for many ailments, including acne. They would only do this if they had proof that such acne treatment worked.
Here’s one that worked for me!
There are many natural and holistic acne treatments and following any such regime can, at worst, have little effect but more likely, it will show benefits. However, most systems either don’t follow through or go the whole way towards helping you achieve a long-lasting cure which is why I wanted to tell you my experience of a holistic method that worked for me.
But whatever acne treatment you are following, you can also incorporate natural acne remedies. Here are a few.
Stay Clean!
Keep your skin clean and pores unclogged and free of bacteria by washing your face two or three times a day. Don’t overdo the washing as your skin needs to maintain a proper pH balance and whatever you do – don’t scrub!
Don’t squeeze! Yeah, I know, it’s tough but it’s best not to, and try not to touch your face with your hands as this can transfer bacteria which can cause an acne flare-up.
Guys – it’s best to shave to avoid bacteria in your hair. If you try to grow a beard you may find bald patches. Try both a safety razor and an electric razor and see which is the most comfortable. Shave as gently as you can to avoid nicks.
Say NO to Oil!
Girls – if you use a moisturiser or liquid foundation, use ones which are oil-free and safe for acne treatment. Remove make-up every night with gentle soap and water or acne face wash.
Zinc has been shown to reduce acne and can help prevent acne scarring but it’s also a poison so don’t overdose. Stay well below the 100mg per day limit; 50mg is good. Also take a multivitamin as greater levels of zinc require more copper and manganese. This is long-term thing – give it at least three months.
Lemon is a Natural Treatment
Use natural lemon to exfoliate. It removes dead skin from clogged pores. First wash your face. Squeeze a lemon and dab the juice onto your face with cotton wool. Let it dry for about ten minutes then rinse. The juice will likely sting a little which is natural – avoid the eyes! You can dilute it if it’s too strong. Do this twice a day and check the results in a week.
Drink plenty of water to flush the toxins out of your system. This alone is not an acne cure but it will contribute and it will help the rest of you stay healthy.
Remember that many natural acne treatments can take a few weeks to start working so give a treatment at least two weeks, before discounting it.
If you like the idea of holistic, natural treatment, here’s one that worked for me!
